UK House Buyers Glossary
Here is a glossary of terms that UK property buyers will find helpful.
- Airbricks - bricks with perforations in them which are built into walls to ventilate a room or the underside of a wooden floor.
- Alcove - a recessed space in a wall, usually vaulted and in old houses was the place for a bed.
- Apron - a raised panel, sometimes shaped and decorated, immediately below a window sill.
- Arch - wedge-shaped masonry or bricks arranged in a semi-circle and usually supporting the weight above it.
- Architrave - a wooden moulding around a door or window which covers the gap between the frame and the wall.
- Asking price - this is the price that the seller of a property hopes to sell it for.
- Aspect - the direction that a house or room faces. So, if a room is described as having a southern aspect, it means that it faces directly south.
